Betty Dema McCalister, 83, passed away January 15, 2020, in Oklahoma City, OK. She is now in Heaven and no longer in pain.
Betty was born July 27, 1936, in Oklahoma City, OK to Oscar and Beulah (Holland) Greenwood. She attended Capitol Hill High School and was a member of Southwest Church of God (now called Southern Hills Church of God) where she met the love of her life, Vencil McCalister. Vencil and Betty married in 1953 and soon began their family. Betty was a wonderful wife and mother and enjoyed raising her four children. She was a resourceful homemaker and helped make ends meet by babysitting children in her home, making clothes for her three girls, and was even known to make her own furniture at times. All four of her children took music lessons and Betty cleaned house for their music teacher in exchange for their lessons.
After her children were older, Betty began working as a sales order clerk for Altec Lansing and then later for Fleming Foods until her retirement in 2000. During retirement she enjoyed spending as much time as possible with family. She especially loved playing chicken foot dominoes with her children and grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Vencil McCalister; parents, Beulah and Oscar Greenwood; brother, Orville Greenwood; sister-in-law, Vonnett Greenwood.
She is survived by her loving children; Rhonda Procopio and her husband Glenn of Lakeland FL, Cheryl Millard and her husband Mike of Edmond OK, Gina McCalister of Oklahoma City OK, Vencil McCalister and his wife Sally of North Richland Hills TX; five grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy and Jared Procopio, Leslie McCalister, Katelyn Ramsey; her four great-grandchildren, whom she adored, Maci, Olivia, Jack and Zadie; niece, Cary Greenwood; nephew, Richard Greenwood; many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
