John Harper

John Harper Jr. has gone home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at the age of 90. There he was reunited with Delores, his wife of 64 years, and the love of his life.

John was born in Oklahoma City, to John and Jewel Harper, on February 18, 1930. He graduated from Capitol Hill High School, then served in the United States Navy, where he was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii. Upon returning home he joined the Oklahoma City Fire Department, and retired as Captain in 1978 after 21 years of duty. John and Delores owned and operated John Harper Homes for over 35 years, where they proudly built homes in the metro area. He was also a member of the Myrtle Masonic Lodge and became a 32nd degree Mason. He later married Marieta Thorp in 2014.

John enjoyed watching all OU sports, playing gold, bird watching, and for many years he loved snow skiing. John has also been known to play a little ukulele. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family, which he was very proud of. We will remember him sitting on the patio, watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing together by the pool.

John’s memory will be treasured and forever in our hearts.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Aubrey Harper and his son, John “Sonny” Harper III.
John is survived by his wife, Marieta June Thorp; His son, Michael & wife Renae Harper; His daughter, Tina and Joe Simon; His daughter-in-law, Debbie Harper; His seven grandchildren and his eleven great-grandchildren.
