John Wormeringer III

August 2, 1935 ~ April 2, 2021 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Tribute

John Peter Wormeringer III was born on August 2, 1935, in Wichita, Kansas. In his lifetime he lived in Shawnee, Ada, Seminole, and Moore, Oklahoma; Great Bend, Kansas; and Snyder, Texas.

John’s career was in the oilfield from an early age, working first for Halliburton as a teen and then, until he retired in 1998, for Dia-Log. He was the quintessential company man!

John married his wife of 57 years, Marilyn, in 1961, and became a father to his only child, his daughter, Shawna, in October 1962. Over the years, he was also a surrogate father to the foster children that he and Marilyn took in, and also to one crazy Swedish foreign exchange student they hosted, Anders Eberharson.

After retiring from Dia-Log, John, along with wife Marilyn, settled back in Shawnee, Oklahoma, where he stayed active in church and delivered Meals-On-Wheels. In 2017, after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, he and Marilyn moved once again to Moore to be closer to their daughter and son-in-law. He was a faithful caretaker to Marilyn as her health started to fail; and she passed in the home in March of 2019. He continued to live his best life in the home with the help of his daughter and her family, and devoted caregivers and home health.

On April 2, 2021, at age 85, John slipped quietly away, at home, surrounded by people who loved him. His time spent here on Earth will be remembered by many; his sunny, charming personality; his thoughtfulness; his quiet Ninja-like skills; his love of peanut butter and jelly on waffles; his stories that always included his dad, Indians, and naked girls; his love for his family and the caregivers he thought of as family. He had a full life and definitely left his mark on the hearts of all those he touched living that life.

John is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Shawna and Craig Mussatto, of Norman, Oklahoma; his grandson, Ryan Mussatto, of Moore, Oklahoma; his granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Macalah and Gavin Swenson, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; his sister and brother-in-law, Terri and David Williamson, of Springdale, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; and his sister, Janelle Schuyler.

Donations in John’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of flowers are welcome.
