Mary "Pauline" Slayter passed away after suffering more than 10 years from Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born in OKC to James Virgil and Ethel Candies Hopkins. On April 16, 1946 she married Odell Slayter. They were married almost 69 years until his death in 2015. Mom will be remembered for her great laugh, as a wonderful mother & grandmother, creative homemaker and faithful wife to Odell. Mom was a beautiful example of a “helpmate.” One example is when she stayed in the Dallas hospital room for 8 weeks with Dad during his leg trauma. She left the hospital one time! She supported Odell in his business, Slayter Bros. Construction and was owner/manager of Apollo Mobile Home park. She made life easy for her family, by having dinner on the table every evening, welcoming their friends, and being a constant presence. Mom was frugal, but we never went without a need being met or really even a want. She was secretly generous to others wanting no recognition. Mom was an excellent seamstress and made many of Kathy’s formals. She also enjoyed crocheting. Our parents enjoyed many things together such as gardening, square dancing, hunting, raising peacocks, Lake Texoma, making dolls, stained glass, vacations, and of course, their family. We won’t say they didn’t bicker, because they did, but somehow they were always on the same page and they always had each others back. Mom was a family woman and deeply cared and provided for her family. She trusted Christ in 1985 and they were members of Draper Park Christian Church. We are forever grateful for her example of strength & faithfulness. We would like to thank Sommerset Memory Care for taking such excellent care of our mom. Shawna wants to thank Kathy for visiting mom every day for the last four years and Gary for spending every Sunday with her. Dad is very proud of you!
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Maxine Holder, Martha Moomey and Millie Hopkins, brother Frank Hopkins, son-in-law Chuck Collins.
