Ricky Thomas Brakebill, 70, passed away May 4, 2020, in Norman, OK, with his wife by his side and surrounded by his loving family. Ricky was born on Oct 4, 1949, in Oklahoma City, OK, to the late JT Brakebill and June Schunemann. He graduated from Southeast High School in Oklahoma City in 1969 and was voted the “friendliest” person in his graduating class.
Ricky worked for Cleveland County and retired from OG&E after 30 years as a special equipment operator and served in the US Army. He enjoyed golf, hunting, playing the guitar, camping and boating, watching his grandchildren play sports, and playing with his best friend, “Fuzzy”. Ricky loved watching OU football with his enormous family of friends where he could often be heard greeting them as “Yeah, Buddy”.
Ricky married Gloria “Diane” Brakebill on April 4, 1998. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years; sons, Braz Brakebill and wife, Shannon, of Moore, OK; Taylor Brakebill of Moore, OK; and Chris Firestone and wife, Amy, of Minco, OK; step-daughters, Tyan Winters, and husband, Cameron of Durango, CO; and Shilo Murray and husband, Matthew, of Norman, OK; sisters, Paula Leggett of Norman, OK, and Rena Wilson of Norman, OK; and brother, Todd Brakebill of Norman, OK. Ricky was blessed with 9 grandchildren: Dregen Nikolas Murray, Taylan Joseph Weller, Alex Ray Firestone, Cullen Thomas Brakebill, Christopher Craig “CJ” Firestone, Cash Thomas Murray, Gunner James Winters, Aspen Skyler Winters, and Gavin Thomas Brakebill, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2020, at 2pm in Norman, OK (contact family for further information). Please send donations to St. Jude’s Cancer Center in lieu of flowers.
