Terry Franklin Lauderdale

Terry Franklin Lauderdale was born April 1, 1946 in Oklahoma City. He was the third child born to Waymon and Eudah Pauline (Speegle) Lauderdale. When he was approximately three years old the family moved to Woodland Hills, CA, where his father worked as a butcher for Safeway Grocery. The family lived in California for several years and the Lauderdale children thrived. He played little league baseball and was a member of the Boy Scouts. When he was approximately twelve years old the family moved back to Oklahoma City to help his maternal grandparents manage the Melrose Courts Motel in Capital Hill. He attended Capitol Hill Junior High and graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1964. In high school he played football for his beloved uncle, C.B. Speegle. He enrolled at Central State College in Edmond and graduated with a degree in Business. In high school and college he worked as a lifeguard at the Woodson Park pool and Kerr-McGee plant. After graduating from college he served in the U.S. Army for two years. Then he went to work for the Hartford Insurance Company as an insurance adjustor and joined the Oklahoma Air National Guard. The Guard trained him to fly helicopters and he got his wings which he proudly wore. He worked for the Don Manners Law Firm, American International Adjustors, New Hampshire Insurance Company, National American Insurance Company and retired from Hanover Insurance Company. He was the consummate claims adjuster with honesty, integrity and professionalism. He retired from the Air National Guard after twenty-six years. He loved Oklahoma State University Football, motor homes, Ford Thunderbirds, early morning breakfast with his friends and golf. Shortly after his retirement he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, which he fought valiantly. He then slowly began to develop symptoms of Lewy Body Dementia that eventually took his life. He died December 24th, at the age of seventy-two in Edmond, Oklahoma. His final days were spent at the Iris Memory Care facility in Edmond. The family wants to thank the staff at Iris who treated him with compassion and respect and took such great care of him. Also thanks to the wonderful nurses and staff of Sooner Hospice (Yvonne) that watched over him and helped him transcend into an easy, peaceful sleep.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dean Lauderdale; and stepson Randal Hart. He is survived by his wife, Kay; Daughters, Kriste Bowen (Jerry) and Yancy Clarkson (Greg); stepson, Adam Hart; sister Pollyann Edwards. He has eight grandchildren whom he adored; Darrius, Jake, Wyatt, Ashton, Brookelyn, Emma, Avery and Brynn.

We will always be thankful to Dale Wiggins, Steve Breed, Walter Gilcrease, Ken Rackley and Tony Gulley for their undying friendship.

A “Going Away” service will be held at 2:00p.m, Friday, December 28, 2018 at the chapel of Moore Funeral & Cremation, 400 SE 19th St. Moore, OK.
